The Things They Do When They're Two

Having a two year old has got to be one of the funnest things in the world.
(Yep, I teach English and I used the word 'funnest')

Michael makes us laugh every day. He is smart and picks up so much I really just need to keep a notepad in my hand so I can write down everything because I know I only remember a tenth of the things he says/does.

Here are some funnies from this week:

As I'm carrying Michael up the steps on my hip, he leans out and slides his hand up the railing and says, "I am SO big!" I agree with him and 30 seconds later as I'm pulling him up off the floor say, "Michael you are SO big, aren't you?" He replies with, "No I'm not big. I'm just tiny."

Michael is enthralled with pretend monsters and shooting them. He always wants to go find them and hide. I taught him how to crouch over and tiptoe and I say "Let's sneak and peek around the corner." Now he always wants to "peek" for monsters.

Michael loves school and can always give me a re-cap of what happened. This is a recent conversation:
Me: Michael were you good at school today?
Michael: Yeah and Benson was naughty and he threw the buh-locks (words that have an 'l' behind a letter he makes into two syllables. So he puh-lays with buh-locks.) and teacher Jody said No! and he sat on time out
Me: Oh really? That wasn't very nice of Benson was it?
Michael: And Emily was sad and she goes like this (he hangs his head down looking at the ground)
Me: (cracking a smile) Hmmm... and what else?
Michael: And we colored and I ate a snack and I didn't like my lunch...it's yucky
I love that he remembers every little detail and wants to share it with us.

Michael ADORES the Little Einsteins shows. He always talks about Leo and June and Quincy and Annie. I think Annie is his favorite because he gets our Rockband microphone out every time so he can have "a micwaphone." He sings along with the songs and pats and raises his arms and shouts "Blast off!" It's freakin' adorable. But my new favorite thing is that because he has all the episodes memorized, he knows what classical music clip goes with what mission they complete. For instance, this morning, the show starts and they introduce what classical music clip they're going to use. (Today it was The Moldau by Smetana.) When Michael hears it he says, "Oh no. The baby chimp is going to get lost and he cries for his mama and dada!" I couldn't believe that just because he heard the song, he remembered a past episode where the chimp cries out in the tune of that song. It happened to be a new episode though where they used the same song but with a different mission. This one had instrument dinosaurs: piccolodactyl and bassosaurus rex.
Haha such a weird show but it's really cute how much Michael learns because of it.

I'm there doing dishes at the sink and in creeps Michael saying "We're going on a bear hunt We're going on a bear hunt We're gonna catch a big one..." I ask him about what he's saying and he says in a matter-of-factly way, "Mom at school we say We're going on a bear hunt like this."

Michael and I were talking about daddy and why he could do a certain thing. I told Michael, "He gets to do that because he is the daddy. Sorry." To which Michael replies, "But I'm a daddy too! He (pointing to Steve) is the big daddy and I am the little daddy." Haha still makes me laugh.

And finally, I heard it for the first time yesterday. That whine that every child masters. I wish I could put the tune on here through words. But I can't. The famous line is: "But Ma-om!" Not sure if that makes sense but he says Mom in two syllables and two notes (the first higher than the second) dragging them together. Understand? No? It's okay... just wait and when your own child says it the next time (or says it for the 1st time), you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Regardless of the whine behind that phrase, I still think it's adorable. I love being called mom.

He is such a stud. Just from your posts, I want to be Michael's buddy! Carson would learn so much from him!

Thanks for the recap...keep it coming! They make me laugh and love my own (almost) 2 year old!
