Lyrics? Ummm... not really

I'm proud to say my little boy takes after me. Well, Steve too, of course, but there are certain things that we both know came from me; little traits, weird habits that I have. Things like being OCD about how straight or lined up things are, or closing a door that was left open, not having messy hands, the way I yawn or smile, etc.

Today, though, I learned of one more thing. Let me explain:

So you know those shows like "Don't Forget the Lyrics" or whatever it's called where they sing a song and have to fill in a part of the lyrics? I've always known I would be really bad at that. I mean I could fake it a little but not really. Anytime someone hears me sing, they ask me "wait, what did you say?" so I repeat the line and am laughed at. I can make it sound similar but I've never been good at actually learning the correct lyrics. I guess I can't really pick out the right words... I just think of words that sound like what they're saying regardless of if it makes sense or not.

Anyway, today it really hit home that Michael does the same thing.

The song "You've Got A Friend in Me" says
You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me

You've got troubles, well I've got 'em too

However, my two year old is convinced that is says
You got in trouble and I gotta toot

He cracks up every time that part of the song plays and repeats the line for me to hear too.

Also, Michael's favorite primary song right now is "I am a Child of God." He has a CD of primary songs he listens to each night as he falls asleep. He calls it his Jesus music. ("Wait, mom/dad, turn on my Jesus music" is what he always says.) Anyway, he can sing pretty much the whole song by himself but he always ends with "Teach me all that I must do to live with me someday."

And the "Follow the Prophet" song... Michael sings "Follow the Projess." I can't figure that one out because when we pray he says "Bless our prophet, President Monson" and says it perfectly. Go figure!

I know there are lots more, but these are the few that cross my mind right now.

He'll probably grow out of it and learn the right words cause he's smart like that.
But for now, I'm enjoying his innocent little mind as he tries to figure everything out.

Michael singing in the car

(As for me, I wish I could say the same about me growing out of it but I'm afraid I'm grown and the habit has already set in. Just don't listen too closely next time I sing.)
