Today started off at 430 this morning. Lovely, right?
Michael came in with a barking cough and said, "Mom, my froat hurts. I'm berry sick." So up he crawled to the foot of our bed where I tucked him in between our blanket-covered legs and kissed him goodnight again.
(Yes, the foot of the bed. Having him on top of the covers in between our legs with his own blankets is a lot less intrusive than inside the covers between our bodies, especially since I make up 1 1/2 persons these days.)
Then since I was already awake, I figured I should head into the bathroom since I was about due for another middle-of-the-night pee trip anyway.
Except I couldn't really move. My body was so stiff from the day before.
See yesterday I took the day off to get some rest and to help Steve on getting rooms situated before the baby gets here. On yesterday's agenda: cleaning/organizing/setting up what-used-to-be-the-sewing room into a sewing room/office.
Although Steve did the majority of the work, the few things I did were too much.
Apparently washing walls with a mop and wiping floorboards is not something my body is fit for right now.
So stiff as I was, I rolled over in bed to fall asleep.
I watched the clock until 4:45 knowing Steve's alarm was going to go off waking him up for work.
And it did at 4:45... and again at 5:52... and again at 5:59...
Next thing I know, Steve is kissing me goodbye.
Then we spent the next 10 minutes tearing the house apart looking for Steve's wallet.
After deciding there was no where else to look, giving him emergency cash, and kissing goodbye again, he found his wallet in the top of his backpack--right where he put it last night knowing he would be taking it to work and not wanting to forget his wallet.
Nice.
As I crawled back in bed, hoping the next 10 minutes would feel like 10 hours of sleep, Michael started coughing again. Then the crying came because his throat was so sore.
Knowing he couldn't go to day care with a cough like that, I logged in to my computer to get a sub for the day. Part of me was glad because my body was needing a day off from my day off yesterday but the other part of me felt bad for having to leave my students with a sub again. They'll get plenty of that soon enough.
But what's a mom to do with a sick kid when dad has already left for work?
Anyway,
as soon as I posted the job, my computer died. Realizing I left my power cord at the school, I had no way to send in any instructions for the day. Awesome.
So I sat Michael up in my bed with Backyardigans and a popsicle while I showered.
At 6:40 I loaded Michael into the car, Buzz jammies and all, and headed to the school to get my power cord.
Michael sat in the car eating a popsicle while I ran up to my room to get my power cord and set things out for the sub.
By 7:00 I was home, back in jammies, watching Backyardigans with Michael as I typed up sub instructions.
From there our day hasn't changed much. It's been a relaxing day.
We ate a breakfast for champions which consisted of Eggo waffles, hot chocolate, and Otter Pops.
Michael's coughing stopped by about 9 AM (of course) and my body is aching much less.
So I've spent my day in pajama pants and tennis shoes folding laundry, coloring with Michael, watching Tangled, cleaning out my drawers and closet and reading blogs. Productive, right?
Michael is still in his Buzz jammies (since he'd rather wear those than anything else these days...seriously, they're his favorite. He wants to put Buzz jammies on as soon as he gets home from school almost every day.)
He also has been roaming the house with one sock on and one sock off just because it's what he wants.
We watched the movie Elf even though Valentines stuff currently decorates our house. I guess this is because when you get to stay home from school, you pretty much call the shots. That's probably the reason we're both chewing Hubba Bubba gum and watching The Incredibles right now.
If you get a day off, you might as well enjoy it, right?
And enjoy it we have!
Don't worry... we have big plans of actually getting dressed today.
In a couple hours we'll head to my nephew's recital and then meet our daddy for a hot date of grocery shopping.
Aaaah, the life :)
